Updated: May 15, 2023

As part of OPENSPACE’s ‘Entrepreneurship Huddle Series’, we partnered with TRIBVL AFRICA to bring you yet another interesting topic ‘Unravelling Entrepreneurship In Africa’. Hosted at The Woods, Accra, Ghana on the 6th of September 2019, this open discussion welcomed business professionals, creatives and entrepreneurs to learn, network and make long-lasting collaborative relationships! The discussion was led by these panelists; Valerie Lawson, CEO of CVL Beauty, Fred Apaloo III, CEO & Creative Director, Villa Grace, Tamara Jonah-Goka, Founder & CEO Lionhearted Group, Francis Haligah , Co- Founder & Director Woodlab Furniture and Amartei Armar, Screen Writer & Film Director , AKA Ent Limited.

Some of the interesting and practical perspectives that were raised during this discussion included; the unique factors to know about starting a business in Ghana, the hiring and employee retention dynamic in Ghana and how marketing in Ghana requires a lot of networking and relationship building amongst others. A few challenges were also discussed. However, one that was profound was cash flow issues and delayed payments in Ghana and how every entrepreneur will face them at certain times on their entrepreneurship journey. It was also discussed that there was therefore a need to prepare for such contingencies if you want to have a successful entrepreneurship business in Ghana and Africa as a whole. Overall, this discussion shed light on entrepreneurship, challenges and steps needed to thrive as a business in Ghana!
